Diplo Casts James Van Der Beek As Self in Mad Decent Promo

Hey Fam! Diplo seems to have found his celebrity look alike, actor, James Van Der Beek, and is casting him in the role of himself in this super over-exaggerated but hilarious rendition of the day-in-the-life-of-a-famous DJ video.

Van Der Beek is known for being a television star of Don’t Trust the B***h in Apartment 23 and of course his past romantic TV character of the constantly crying Dawson of Dawson’s Creek (made by none other than Dawson’s tears, of course). In this hysterical visual, Van Der Beek demonstrates his fun, sarcastic side, and Diplo shows how he even enjoys making fun of himself. The video is meant to serve as a new promo for what is to be Diplo’s forthcoming Mad Decent Block Parties, which are going to be lit!

Van Der Beek as Diplo

Throughout the video, we get a taste of the fab world: waking up in a silk-oriental pj ensemble to a woman playing a harp in the morning, studio engineers dressed involuntarily as elves producing music in the studio, ninjas attacking, women shaking their booties in hallways (just a day in the job), horseback riding on rooftops, extravagant amounts of LED lights and beams, sparkly dust, vague advice, and a copious number of times using the word “fam.” Yeah, it’s definitely a lot. Casual.

This caricatured and satirized version of the EDM-heavy weight and Jack U producer, takes you on a once of a lifetime journey to see the “wild” side of a mega-producer. And of course it’s accompanied by fantastic music from the genre, such as “Light It Up” by Major Lazer.

Van Der Beek, or excuse me, “Diplo,” advises while fighting a clan of ninjas:

“Another thing that people ask me all the time is ‘Diplo, how do you deal with haters?’ Simple,” “Diplo” says while inexplicably fighting a gang of ninjas. “See, haters only hate because you got what they wish they have. It’s like what I always say, “Ain’t no compliment greater than a hater.'”

The Mad Decent Block Party kicks off this July 30th in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with other outrageously known artists to get the party started, such as Kesha, Tiësto, Baauer, AlunaGeorge, DJ Snake, D.R.A.M., Kaskade, Boi-1da, Dillon Francis, Flosstradamus, RL Grime, Zeds Dead and others. The festival is sure to be lit, fam. Check out the Mad Decent official site for more details on the event.
