Young Thug Calls Chance the Rapper a “Slept On Legend” like Prince

Prince’s passing hit the music world hard, and amongst all of he musicians who came up to pay tribute to the lost icon, Young Thug was one of them. But not only did he perform, but he also made a bold statement connecting the artist to Chance the Rapper.

Taking the stage for a performance at the BET Awards on Sunday, June 26th, Young Thug dressed as Prince, complete with a Prince-themed set up . Later on, when on the red carpet, Young Thug is interviewed and asked about Chance the Rapper, the hip hop artists had a few words for everyone. He made a statement that shocked many, but it seemed that not too many protests. Thug compared Chance to the late Prince. In an interview with Hip Hollywood, these were his exact words:

“They been sleeping. I think they gonna always sleep on him. He’s gonna die like Prince. He’s gonna die a slept on legend.”

Is it true that legends are only fully adored and memorialized after their death? Chance seems to be getting a lot of recognition, but Thug seems to think he could get more. He is a big fan of the rapper, and in fact, Thugger collaborated with Chance on track “Mixtape” from the extremely successful and widely-adored project, Coloring Book. Chance’s third mixtape was so well-received by fans, it actually had the chance to become the first streaming-exclusive album to reach the Billboard 200. The Chicago-rapper did not work alone though, besides recording with Young Thug, he also had the assistance of renown hip hot artists of today such as Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Ty Dolla $ign, Future, T Pain and 2 Chainz.

It may seem like a bit of a stretch though to compare the new age artist to an absolute legend of the 80s whose his triumphs were well documented while he was still alive. Nonetheless, you never know, every era has their legend, and perhaps Chance makes the cut.
