This year’s VH1 Hip-hop Honors: All Hail the Queens event is sure to be a hit as it is an entire night dedicated to the woman of music, but most importantly it will honor a legendary woman of the hip hop art, Missy Elliot!
The entirety of the event will be of course filled with some of the best artists in the genre including people like Pharrell Williams, Timbaland, Nelly Furtado, Remy Ma, Jazmine Sullivan, Raven Symone, and Keyshia Cole (and of course many more). Originally, the whole night was supposed to be a night to commemorate some of the best ladies of hip hop, but then the organization decided to add an entire segment that would just glorify Elliot. It will also honor Queen Latifah and Lil Kim, equally admirable women. As stated by the VH1 entity, it will be an evening for “the trailblazing ladies of hip-hop.”
Needless to say, this isn’t the first time the “misdemeanor” had a tribute to her at the VH1 Hip-hop Honors, the last time occurred back in 2007, where artists produced and performed a medley of her work (you can watch the video below). That was 9 years ago! And it has been six whole years since we’ve had an Honors event! So, this is sure to be a significant night for many! Rolling Stone had reported that the night will also acknowledge the talented work of artists like Salt-N-Pepa and Spinderella. Latifah’s tribute will also be presented by an all star team of artists, featuring Yo-Yo, Common, Suga T, Naughty by Nature, Rah Digga, Da Brat, and MC Lyte. Then Latifah join Monie Love to perform their collaborative 1989 hit track “Ladies First.”
It is evident that the VH1 Hip-hop Honors will be a memorable, fun-filled, and fired-up extravaganza with non-stop music! According to what Luke McCormick, of The Fader, has heard, the Honors is expected to air on channel VH1 on July 11th at 9 P.M. EST at New York’s Lincoln Center. So be sure to have your TV’s on and ready for some musical enlightenment.
