Ain’t no mercy / Got my Purple Lamborghini lurkin’…
Those are the main chorus lines of the Rick Ross and Skrillex’s newest single “Purple Lamborghini” which will serve as the official theme song to the Warner Bros’ villainous action movie Suicide Squad. In this track, we get Rick Ross and the heavy beats as always. And of course, in relation to Skrillex, there’s that typical intense trap sound that is expected of any real EDM track. To be honest, I may not be the biggest fan of this record as the theme song for the film, but maybe there are people who do like it! As a song by itself, it is fire, it is intense, and it is fatally good. It is the Ross that any true rap fan would adore. The instrumental is probably the best part. I just find it hard to flow with it as a film bass line, but then again, the movie is primarily focused around chaos, so then in this case it fits.
Ross and Skrillex appeared on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 Apple Music Radio show just recently, and there they premiered the track. Lowe then jumped into questions about the rumored music video that will accompany the song. Ross revealed the fact that The Joker himself (or really Jared Leto) will star in the visual as well, bring the character and the motion picture to life with its theme song.
No matter what, the bass is the most significant part of the track. Low, hard-hitting, snappy, and old school. It’s got that gun shots and the drum kicks and the rollercoaster of synthesized tones. You can practically picture the squad in motion with their guns pounding away to the warped chord progressions: pow, pow, pow! And of course, the song wouldn’t be Skrillex certified if it didn’t incorporate his famous screamo cry “oh my god.”
Skrillex told Lowe about the music video on air “just expect cinematic gold. It’s something that is such a rare thing to have myself, and Ross, and the Joker.” Ross only emphasized the hype, exclaiming that with The Joker on the set “he most definitely brought the Suicide Squad.”
In other news, Skrillex has also been collaborating with the pop-rap princess M.I.A. on her single “Go Off,” which is to be a part of her debut album this fall! Similarly, the producer featured on a song with A$AP Ferg titled “Hungry Ham.”
The soundtrack for this film is going to be one of the most epic compilations of music known to music history. Why? Because some of the top artists in the industry are teaming up to construct the perfect action-packed album for you. Some of those artists include: Whiz Khalifa, Imagine Dragons, Mark Ronson, G-Eazy, Twenty One Pilots, Eminem, Kevin Gates, Kehlani, Panic! At the Disco, Skylar Grey, Grimes, Sam Harris (of X Ambassadors) and Lil Wayne.
