Dial up! Still confused, but excited!
Earlier this week, Mr. Childish Gambino, formally known as Donald Glover, unveiled the trailer for his upcoming drama/comedy television series Atlanta. The executive producer sat down with reporters recently to discuss the newly anticipated FX program that is both intriguing and enigmatic since we’re still not really sure what it’s about, but we’ve been waiting for it since he announced the plans for the show 4 years ago!
Of his own fabrications, Glover creates this show in which he, Earnest “Earn” Marks, is an outcast that comes back to his hometown, Atlanta. He attempts to jump into the rhythm of the rap scene there with his cousin, Alfred, played by Brian Tyree Henry. Glover told the press from Television Critic’s Association that “the thesis with the show was kind of to show people how it felt to be black.” He further elaborates that “I always want people to be scared because that’s kind of how it feels to be black.” The contemporary R&B/hip hop singer-songwriter-rapper tries to reach out to the audience who will watch this show, subtly and nonchalantly taking and proving a social and political standpoint. In these novel episodes to air on all household screens, we should expect nothing less from the innovative “3005” artist who has always taken an inventive, expressive, and thoughtful approach to his work.
With the dark-comedic scenes in the trailer shown above, we are perpetually wondering what Glover’s character is all about, what he is thinking, and what will happen next. Consequence of Sound notes that the trailer itself is soundtracked by Tame Impala’s “New Person, Same Old Mistakes,” and which fits the vibe of the show kind of perfectly.
This is the first, full-length trailer of the broadcast. It’s somewhat humorous how just from watching the minute-long clip, fans of Gambino’s can see the creative Gambino within.
The show is to officially premiere on September 6th on FX! Check out FX’s site HERE to find out more about showtimes and to see more snippets from the show!
Let us know how excited you are for the premiere!
