Republic Records Executive Confirms The Weeknd & Daft Punk Collaborating

Rumor has it that Robots meet Falsetto Singers

The Weeknd has not been on his own musical solo game that much, but damn has he been working on his collaborative game! Recently it was heard in reports with a Republic Records executive, that the artist is planning on another eclectic joint-project! The label member confirmed that Abel Tesfaye (aka The Weeknd) will be teaming up with the British electronic dance duo, known formally as Daft Punk.

The news was all revealed to us during Billboard’s episode of “hitmakers roundtable” just a few weeks ago. During that edition, one particular executive from Abel’s label spoke about the artist pairing. In addition, Pitchfork had reported that the Executive VP & head of urban A&R at the label named Wendy Goldstein admitted to the camera that she would be a part of a session that would include both The Weeknd and Daft Punk- in the same room, in the same studio. Hmm… Sounds legit enough!

The Weeknd himself, also revealed the news by posting an image on Facebook with the action-figure versions of the sonically eccentric automaton artists.

He also posted an image of himself for his fans with the caption: “know it’s been a while but now i’m mixing up the drink.” What does this mean? Is he referring to his unprecedented musical teammates, Daft Punk, and their new track or project together? Most likely. What has he concocted for us do you think?

This is honestly really big news. Especially, since everyone has been waiting for Trilogy artist to drop something new since dropping his last album Beauty Behind The Madness, being in and performing at numerous festivals and award ceremonies, and being a Juno, Grammy, Billboard, YouTube, iHeartRadio, MuchMusic Video, and BET award winner. This Canadian super star has already captured the hearts of many listeners around the world with his swoon worthy croons and cutting-edge, dark airy vocals. As for the “Around The World” crafters, these guys have been notorious for being avant-garde form of disco music, truly moving the genre forward. The DJs/producers have also received Grammy, Billboard, UK Music, Danish Music, DJ of the Year, and World Music awards. The fact that these two heavily adorned, powerhouses of their realms are coming together is breaking news!

Goldstein had also remarked, “I’ve always been a massive Daft Punk fan,” she continues, “this is the first time I’ve been involved with an artist who’s going to go and work with them.” Them being Daft Punk. So, once again, BIG. Stay tuned!
