Despite the fact that this playlist of the week is named after Halsey’s recent release “Bad At Love” off her hit album Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, there is a lot of truth to the title.
A lot of of us feel that we just are not in the right mind set, or perhaps we don’t feel like we know ourselves well enough to enter love. AND THAT’S FINE. Love is a whirling mess for most, and it’s tough. But when you do find the one, it’s the most incredible thing ever, the most important, because it’s the thing that pushes you forward and gives you passion and gives you reason. Until you find that one though, you’re going to need some music that helps you get through the confusion, whether a happy tune or a melancholy one, it’s ok to not be ok, and it’s ok to keep waiting and figuring it all out, because in the end, the most important love is the one for yourself. Sorry for the corny message today, but Halsey’s new single “Bad At Love” was just such a great track, and it really hit a chord that I think so many can understand and feel connected to.
So this playlist is to the lovers out there who have a lot of love to give, but have nowhere to put it for now. Music heals the best anyways. So enjoy this compilation of music from Halsey to Hermitude to Axel Mansoor to SZA, Paramore, Dagny, Cashmere Cat, Blackbear, Jon Bellion, and many more!
Keep following for weekly updates of playlists with fresh new sounds and themed tracklists to get you through the summer! And, if you have suggestions, let me know what songs you want to hear on the next playlist
We all need a little love on the brain these days.
I think in the past week, there has been a lot of uproar, negativity, stress, and hurt, which is why I made this playlist. A little boost of noise that hopefully brings the right vibe of dark and light tones, sweet and sultry vibes, and chilled yet bright emotions to add a little love on the brain.
When times have us down, sometimes a spark is needed to ignite the better parts of us that can still the good in the bad. We need to stay motivated, we need to stay up, we nee to stay alive. Sure, you’re going to be surrounded people who just won’t get it- they just won’t ever understand the fighting within yourself. It’s a battle between “me, myself, and I” and you know what? That’s ok. Sometimes we all need that once in a while, but when push comes to shove, we always bounce back stronger. We roll with the punches and wake up to a brighter day, refreshed. Press that restart button, press this play button and crank the tunes, because today you control how the day goes and nothing will get you down, because you’re bolder today than you were before.
With artists like Rihanna, Lido, Ocean Park Standoff, Mura Masa, Jhene Aiko, Temper Trap, Empire of the Sun, the 1975, Sia, Chance the Rapper, Tove Lo, and more, you’ll hopefully find a sound that resonates with you. Don’t let the dog days get to you now, you’re so close to break! So, what are you waiting for? Press PLAY!

As long as you love me / We’re under pressure / Seven billion people in the world trying to fit in.
~”As Long As You Love Me”
Justin Bieber sang it once a long time ago, there is just too much pressure going on all over his love life, or lack there of. For the past few days, it seems like those billions of people are not showing a lot of love for the pop singer and causing a lot of unnecessary drama.
The Canadian-born artist deleted his Instagram account in retaliation to “fans” who were cruelly criticizing him at first for posting pictures with his supposed girlfriend Sofia Richie (Lionel Richie’s heir). His followers were leaving thousands of harsh comments about how terrible and heartless he was for posting such things, and that only infuriated Bieber. He then posted a picture with a caption that said, “I’m gonna make my Instagram private if you guys don’t stop the hate this is getting out of hand, if you guys are really fans you wouldn’t be so mean to people that I like.”
A valid response that fans didn’t seem to get. Instead they just told him to suck it up, delete the comments, or stop posting those images. Finally, all hell broke loose when his ex, Selena Gomez, even took shots at the Biebs. She commented, “If you can’t handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol – it should be special between you two only. Don’t be mad at your fans. They love you.”
Well, that was completely random, Gomez. The heart might still want what it wants, huh Selena? Justin answered the songstress/actress back, “It’s funny to see people that used me for attention and still trying to point the finger this way. Sad. All love. I’m not one for anyone receiving hate.” Oh, Justin?
Gomez went for a swing: “Funny how the ones that cheated multiple times, are pointing the finger at the ones that were forgiving and supportive, no wonder fans are mad. Sad. All love.”
Is she saying the the “Boyfriend” vocalist cheated on her?! Well then watch this next move by Bieber when he comments back, “I cheated… Oh I forgot about You and Zayn?” Did she cheat? Did they both cheat? Were they even really a thing? Honestly, I could care less, people. Let them be…
Party is not over yet though. Next up? Hailey Baldwin, another one of Biebers’ past girlfriends, shows up to play the blame game, thickening this incredibly annoying plot. Baldwin and Bieber had dated before, but recently he unfollowed her on socials and then Sofia also unfollowed her. So clearly, something is up. This is just a terribly sorry version of Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.
After copious amounts of hate hitting Bieber from every angle of social media, he finally decided to end it all by deleting his Instagram account. Of course fans were even more enraged, but honestly, you all deserved it. When hearing this, Gomez then realized that she may have come on too strong and in a recent Snapchat story posted a blank black image with the statement: “What I said was selfish and pointless.” Guess she’s feeling a bit regretful now. Is it too late now to say sorry?
The 22-year old went from 77.8 million followers to 0, real fast. Even Drake wouldn’t be able to countdown for it. He’s also not only building a bad reputation for himself with this, but his burning a lot of bridges with people too. Baldwin was notably upset with him as well after seeing the social war, and decided to post her own thoughts. “Taking responsibility for actions,”“misplacing blame,” and attempting to “manipulate a situation to make yourself look better,” were only a few of the things the celebrity wrote for the Purpose artist.
She was clearly upset when Bieber and Richie unfollowed her because her final note of the night was this: “The truth will always come to light, so it’s better to just own it.”
What truth does she mean? Maybe we will never know, but what we do know is that Beliebers are finding the pop-star to be a little overbearing and overly emotional (during his tour, he snapped at an audience member who threw a hat for him mid-speech). Will his Instagram every see another filtered-day? Well, guess for that, we’ll just have to wait and see. Further References: Buzzfeed, Daily Mail
Jhené Aiko brought us a stunning new single yesterday titled “New Balance,” and just like its name, it centers you with yourself. The stunning R&B songstress returns to us in the form of a mystical melody. Come take a sweet trip with Aiko down a road of love. Every Aiko song always carries an energetic power within a soft ballad. Her vocals carry over the song like a cool breeze over a tide. It’s beautiful and melancholic.
“New Balance” is a true balance between sweet, airy tunes, and Aiko’s dreamy, melodic voice. A song about love and satisfaction, it comes across as a lullaby, yet when the bass kicks in, it’s a seductive composition. The vibes are so real in this transcendental track that takes you to a whole new dimension. Let this R&B goddess serenade you into precious oblivion with this new song.
Aiko was recently on tour with other big hip hop artists such as Snoop Dogg, Kevin Gates, Wiz Khalifa, and more for The High Road Tour! You can see amazing images of her here performing live at the concert! In addition, our Souled Out queen has been putting out a lot of new merchandise that are wicked- like lighters, crop tops, sandals, rings, and more! Be on the look out for them!
And for your pleasure here are the lyrics to “New Balance” below:
new balance most of us are angry most of us are strangely more alike than we’d like to believe
most of us are empty most of us are simply more alive in the scenes of our dreams
then there’s you
you’ve got something I’ve been wanting
you’re so new
you’re my salvage you’re my balance
you’re so new
most of us are hurting most of us are searching someone to love someone to understand
most the time i’m fighting multiple voices residing in my head
then there’s you you bring silence to my violent truth
you’re my salvage you’re my balance
you’re so new
it hit me like a tidal wave knew that i was in love with you right away turned all my days into brighter days even when people say what we do is not ok
according to what the people say who cares what other people say
man fuck what other people say
i’mma ride for you baby if you gon ride for me
cuz i know that what we share is real and I feel so confident in
all you say
when you say
you’ll never leave you’ll never leave please never leave
yea, i believe you
most of all i am thankful you are just what i prayed for you are what i was made for
yes, im for sure
most of all i just want to mean the most to you most of all baby im just tryna grow with you i just wanna go with you
cuz you bring so much hope to the picture
some of us do find the one to fall in love and off of the fucking face of the earth with
some of us DO deserve it a love thats true and perfect
“You should know you’re beautiful just the way you are / And you don’t have to change a thing, the world could change its heart…“
Alessia Cara is a pop/R&B artist who has made her mark already at such a young age!
The Def Jam signee got her first shot at the big leagues when her single “Here” soared on the charts. The cynical rhythmic track was stunningly catchy and she really proved herself a likely candidate to be famous one day. Well, that day has come, and her album took its place rightfully and then carried through her successful tour and features. The single “Here” went multi-platinum, and her project Know-It-All went gold. Should anymore be said?
Now, Cara has released a wonderful music video to accompany her song “Scars to Your Beautiful” off her album Know-It-All. The single itself is a celebration of self-love and is an anthemic rush to empower any person who feels hurt by society’s opinions & thoughts.
The young Canadian singer wanted to support and portray the true strength in those who were quieted or shunned for imperfections of themselves. The millennial star recognized her own negativity towards herself back in high-school, and wanted to bash on those inequalities and injustice’s once and for all. Cara represents the simple people who don’t wear much makeup, who don’t “wanna be” anything but themselves, who have passions, and who love truly and deeply.
The visual itself was directed by Cara herself and enlists anonymous individuals with slight physical flaws, who all together, speak up, speak out, and sing with Cara to show off their faults proudly. Actress and singer Jo Jo also features in the video as well! This musical montage represents the “unattractive women,” “racial minorities,” and “transgender people,” who are forever facing the challenges of closed-mindedness anti-cultural and anti-social people. The song is simple, but undeniably powerful.
When Cara calls, we chant back. This is a revolution of the real people who matter. In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan, the songstress answered a few questions about being judged and criticized. She told the publication, “…you don’t really know what to expect, right? I started around 17, 18 when I really got into it all [the music industry], and just being a teenager, [I wasn’t] really sure of myself anyway. When we’re that young, regardless if we’re in the industry or not, we’re still trying to figure ourselves out and we’re still trying to love ourselves in the best way. When you’re going into this world of the industry, it could add more stress and more confusion. There are so many opinions being thrown at you and it’s almost like you don’t know which ones to believe or if you should believe any of them, and you’re just trying to block out all the noise and figure yourself out. But it’s hard to do that when there are so many opinions of you and of what you should be. Once I learned to block that out, I sort of came into my own and found who I really am. I think I’m a lot more comfortable now than I was when I first started, for sure.”
She explained how many female artists have been trying to make this move to represent the ladies who deserve the most love and respect such TLC’s “Unpretty” and Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful.” “A couple of female artists have done it in the past, and I wanted to put my own spin on it because I feel like you can never have too many reminders and too many songs talking about those things,” says the 20-year old extraordinaire.
With all of this hate and terror occurring in our world today, I think we could all use a little love and empowerment from this song.
You can watch her video above now and let us know what you think!
Recently on Snapchat, Calvin Klein decided to switch out their frontrunner celebrity ambassador, Justin Bieber, for someone a little unexpected, Frank Ocean.
In the past, the large fashion enterprise had icons such as Kendrick Lamar, Fetty Wap, and more! Now, they have a whole new look to add to their Klein recruits for this season’s campaign. We get a sneak peak into the new style pioneers in the Calvin Klein’s newest snapchat discover, which was revealed last Thursday! The company that is known for not only its name and faces, but also for fostering some of fashion’s most forward designs, is constantly being innovative in its ways of advertisement It’s an entity that understands which artists are catching the general public’s interest and uses them to methodically market their luxurious and casual product.
The 2016 Fall Season campaign will include such artists as: Young Thug, James Rodriguez, Kate Moss, Grace Coddington, Henry Rollins, Margot Robbie, Cameron Dallas, and as mentioned before, Frank Ocean. What an eclectic array of individuals. They all were showcased on the app that day and through a series of Snapchat videos, they expressed what it is to fall in love, what the word actually, and the art of flirting.
Ocean, being one of the more fascinating and peculiar members of the team, was very into all of the aesthetic of the commercial. The artist cleans up well for this commercial and comments extremely profound statements around the topics given to him. In one particular dramatic advert that you can see above, Ocean is wearing his Calvin Klein underwear and also a suit and black T, and is talking about the meaning of music, love, and fantasy to him. “If you keep it up for four or five weeks, and then you stop, you feel like you’re missing something in your day. That’s what music is for me – it feels like a necessary act,” says the Channel Orange creator. He continues, “It takes a mind to worry, a conscience to feel ashamed, but there’s no place to hide out here. You romanticize what’s in the past – which is fantasy, but it’s not how I want it done. Fantasy plays the role of a supplement. You draw on fantasy to make things hyper-real.” So, what does that mean Ocean? Care to make any of these into songs? Maybe for a new album or something? Just throwing it out there.
The visual is ominous, yet chill. It is colorful in parts and dull in others, as Ocean moves around an isolated square room, sits against the wall, performs magic tricks, and ponders the words he is trying to express. It seems that time has not aged him at all, and nor has the complaints about asking him for new music. You can watch this now above.
The campaign always follows an erotic and existential, yet simple hook line to introduce a new cast, “I ______ in #mycalvins,” and you can see it in the tweet below. Though this visual is enticing and suavé, fans are still wondering if the now #mycalvins model will ever release #hisalbum.
Do you think this is exciting to see Ocean in a new artistic campaign? Or do you think it’s just another reason for him to procrastinate the production of his album to supposedly come this month, Boys Don’t Cry ? Perhaps he’s making a name for himself again, to delineate his music and the man behind it all.o that people will refresh their memories of him, dust off the pink matter, and ready themselves for a long overdue masterpiece. Stay tuned to find out.
Drake and Rihanna, work work work work work… YES, the original “Take Care” duo who won so many hearts and are still thriving today with their collaborations are back together again!
The stunning couple recently made it official to E! News, and changed their imaginary Facebook statuses to “In a relationship.”
“When you’re ready, just say you’re ready/ When all the baggage just ain’t as heavy/ And the party’s over, just don’t forget me/ We’ll change the pace and we’ll just go slow”?
Remember when Drake serenaded Rihanna (and all of us) with those lines from “Take Care?” Drake has been following the songstress all these years, on a mission to prove the chemistry that they have. Now it seems the baggage ain’t as heavy for her and she’s ready to jump back in. The two have been noticeably together way more often than before, and clearly Drake has been expressing his love for the Caribbean bombshell on the ANTI Tour. During a recent show Ri Ri gave in Manchester, England, the Toronto-rapper surprised everyone, coming out on stage to sing his part in “Work,” and then proclaiming loudly through the mic, “shout out to the most beautiful, talented woman I’ve ever seen…She goes by the name of Rihanna…I’m gettin’ my heart broken.” Well, looks like not anymore, Drizzy! It was so evident that the two were on fire as they danced together and gave each other fleeting glances of affection. They have real passion! The pair have spent a lot of time together in London and on Wednesday morning, they were photographed leaving Tape Nightclub, heading to an after party following the concert that night.
In recent reports, E! News confirmed what the hip hop artist had said, “[he] still loves her and never stopped. Rihanna is the one that’s been not wanting to settle down in the past… They are having fun spending time with each other. Their music together got them close again.”
Understandably, with the heart aching and heart throbbing tunes that these two produce together, how could you not fall in love? Their recent join tracks include “Too Good” off Drake’s Views album, and “Work” off Rihanna’s Anti album. They even released new albums in the same year. C’mon.
This would be the second time that the two give their love a try. They last dated back in 2014 and then had multiple rumored hookups after that. Sadly after that, there was an apparent fight that kept them apart.
In May, word got around that the two were dating exclusively on tour, and a source from People magazine said that “they have been keeping it a secret because this time around, they want to do it right and keep their relationship private.”
Fans have been shipping the OVO rapper and Ri for years now, and their collabs were only igniting the flames.
Now, we can all rejoice that the Champagne Papi and the Barbados beauty can be together again, and hopefully, one that will last. Perhaps we’ll even get more amazing music from the two!
Now, watch these two show their real love on stage at the Manchester show in the video below:
I still believe in man A wise one asked me why Cause I just don’t believe we’re wicked I know that we sin but I do believe we try We all try
-“We All Try” by Frank Ocean
Frank Ocean sang this song a few years ago for his mixtape Nostalgia Ultra, however, the hope he had in past for mankind may have just been wishful thinking. Today (Tuesday), the young contemporary R&B singer broke out of his silence to pen an emotional post on his Tumblr page in response to the tragic Orlando Shootings at the LGBTQ nightclub Pulse last week.
Though the piece is trite, he filled it with sophisticated, complex, and philosophical ideas and thoughts. In the post, he discusses how today’s society has no respect for the LGBTQ community and how there still is no acceptance of these people in our society. He then goes on to reference the treatment of gay men in ISIS, the Orlando Shooting, and his own father’s mistreatment of him. In the past few days, weeks, and even year, there have been a lot to celebrate and rejoice for, but there have also been a lot of events and things to mourn for and be disheartened by. Celebrities dying of disease or old age, world struggles, horrific shootings in Orlando, and so much more. Being a part of the LGBTQ community, Ocean, took this opportunity to reflect and give a radical response to the massacre in probably one of the most beautiful and powerful kind of ways.
“So we say pride and we express love for who and what we are. Because who else will in earnest?”
Similar to one of his most famous singles “Bad Religion,” Ocean questions and challenges people of their logic in justifying their prejudice and discrimination through religion. It is essentially counterintuitive and unholy.
Ocean has been missing to the music world for some time now, with the exception of a few pictures here and there from artists like Lil B’s Instagram, but for the most part, he’s become a ghost. Fans of his have been eagerly waiting for the New Orlean’s-native to drop his supposed new album, but have become quite impatient when the release did not happen as it had been announced to be. Nonetheless, the people close in his life have notified the crowd that he is working in the studio and is working hard. But he will only release it when he feels ready. When will that be? Ocean’s producer Malay told fans that they will be “pleasantly surprised” when it drops, and artist James Blake said that “he’s onto something. He really is.”
For now we have to continue to wait, but you might as well read what he had to say in his poetic Tumblr post below. Let us know what you think:
I read in the paper that my brothers are being thrown from rooftops blindfolded with their hands tied behind their backs for violating sharia law. I heard the crowds stone these fallen men if they move after they hit the ground. I heard it’s in the name of God. I heard my pastor speak for God too, quoting scripture from his book. Words like abomination popped off my skin like hot grease as he went on to describe a lake of fire that God wanted me in. I heard on the news that the aftermath of a hate crime left piles of bodies on a dance floor this month. I heard the gunman feigned dead among all the people he killed. I heard the news say he was one of us. I was six years old when I heard my dad call our transgender waitress a faggot as he dragged me out a neighborhood diner saying we wouldn’t be served because she was dirty. That was the last afternoon I saw my father and the first time I heard that word, I think, although it wouldn’t shock me if it wasn’t. Many hate us and wish we didn’t exist. Many are annoyed by our wanting to be married like everyone else or use the correct restroom like everyone else. Many don’t see anything wrong with passing down the same old values that send thousands of kids into suicidal depression each year. So we say pride and we express love for who and what we are. Because who else will in earnest? I daydream on the idea that maybe all this barbarism and all these transgressions against ourselves is an equal and opposite reaction to something better happening in this world, some great swelling wave of openness and wakefulness out here. Reality by comparison looks grey, as in neither black nor white but also bleak. We are all God’s children, I heard. I left my siblings out of it and spoke with my maker directly and I think he sounds a lot like myself. If I being myself were more awesome at being detached from my own story in a way I being myself never could be. I wanna know what others hear, I’m scared to know but I wanna know what everyone hears when they talk to God. Do the insane hear the voice distorted? Do the indoctrinated hear another voice entirely?
