Russell Elliot Releases Electric & Chilling New Music Video for “I’ll be Damned”

The king is back with another stunning visual for his fans to immerse themselves in.

Russell Elliot releases another incredible single “I’ll Be Damned” today, and to accompany it comes a beautifully filmed and intensive storyline music video. Two for the price of one. Here is a sneak peek above!

With a mysterious and almost psycho-like beginning, we see Elliot dressed in all black and a red scarf across his mouth venture into the snow. The winter samurai then goes in with an axe to manically and addictively chop would, which then transfers us into an abandoned space. There we find the artist sitting in silk nightwear by a fire, eyes glazed over and mind set on something else. That’s when his voice comes in and takes us away to the troubles he is facing in his mind.

“’I’ll Be Damned’ ends abruptly on purpose (the song and the video). I hope you felt a little unsatisfied and surprised at the end. That’s how I felt when this relationship ended out of nowhere. It’s hard when you don’t get the answers you need for closure. So. Fucking. Hard. I ended up channeling that simmering demand for answers into one of my strongest vocal performances yet. I remember taking a moment after recording that bridge. ‘Okay damn. We felt something, huh?’ Listening back, I’m drawn to the strength in the vocals over the hurt of the memories. That feels like growth to me.” The artist explains and reflects on the track for us, giving us the truest meaning behind the lyrical impulsiveness and darkness.

Just like every one of his tracks, Elliot captivates us by the soulful and magical R&B vocals he possesses. Lovestruck for his voice and for those ocean-blue eyes, we jam out to “I’ll Be Damned”.

Be sure to stay tuned, as this single is a sneak peek into the forthcoming sophomore project Elliot will be releasing, titled Split Ends.

Lostboycrow Sails Us Away with New Single “I’m a Sailor Not a Salesman”

Sail Away

Lostboycrow is back with another stunning single that will take you worlds away. The LA-based pop artist and producer released the track “I’m a Sailor Not a Salesman”, yesterday and it has lived up to expectations. Slower than the more recent tracks he has revealed, the song is smooth and beautiful. “It’s synthetic, it’s just not fair”, sings the songster.

5 - Teren Mabry.jpg

This new material comes as part of his successful three-part LP, Traveler. The single is now the second song to be revealed from what is to be his highly anticipated Traveler: The Second Legend project! It is disparate from the other tracks as it includes much more raw instrumentation, from the R&B guitar lines, to the pop-touched vocals, and the electro-painted tones.

4 - @MichaelDanenberg.jpg

The melancholy intonation in his voice makes you fall in love with the storytelling of the mystic who leads the seas and the song waves.  Lostboycrow’s voice has always been able to be strong over the compositions he designs. The voices in the background give this dream-like sensation to the already hazy soundtrack.

The Oregon-born musician is absolutely one to watch as his music is what music should be. (The single already has 33,768 streams on Spotify in less than 24 hours) “The idea that who we are and are becoming is a direction leading us to far greater places than any other pursuit. Any other motive” details Lostboycrow, as he explains the development of this beautiful and wondrous song.

8 - Dana Jacobs.jpg

Lostboycrow has always been a favorite of mine and one I feel has so much to offer to the music scene. His artistry is one that can best implement various genres at once, and every song has this element of hopeful sadness that grabs you by the heart and takes you away to better places in your mind. It’s like going off on your own dark trip to Neverland, falling in love with a broken heart, and traveling off into the world with emotions of wanderlust and blissful uncertainty.

Lostboycrow, himself, is a mystery to all, hiding behind the alluring lyrics he writes. Nonetheless, that is what makes his music that much more attractive and provocative.

Check out the song above, and stay tuned as this artist grows, creates, and strolls into our lives.

Killing me softly.

[Exclusive Interview]: Adrian Daniel, The Man Behind ‘FLAWD’

A Dark Angel

Caution: This music is for the seductive and cynical souls. The sounds are charismatic in the most heartbreaking and savage ways.  Adrian Daniel is a Brooklyn native who intends to make his mark  on the R&B/urban music scene. The falsetto-ist who has been making music for sometime now has finally announced the release of his third project FLAWD, which is set to release on March 2, 2018.

Have you heard of him before? If not, now’s the time you do. The man is like a blend between The Weeknd, Frank Ocean, and Bryson Tiller- a killer combo, no? Billboard, Complex, Beats1, Highsnobiety, The Fader, and others think so too. A storyteller from the core, his music is the making of slow, melodic, captivating tunes and harmonies. Without a doubt, his music is enchanting and mesmerizing as it takes you through the anti-wonderland, perhaps the apocalyptic version as Alice follows a rabbit down a hole to nowhere. It’s erotic and enigmatic.

Adrian Daniel is the product of a rich history, an artistic city, genres of soul, funk, and rhythm and blues, and dance! Younger Daniel has performed his dancing at the Apollo Theater and the Brooklyn Academy, but in 2012, that is when he turned to music as his primary focus. His sound is exciting and offers a new edge to the alternative R&B scene. His music has most definitely evolved and all on a spectrum of spectacular to amazing. Today, he releases his latest single “Deadly Attraction”, which you can listen to above!

AD Flawd copy.JPG

“My brother got me started in music. He forced me to to write songs and they weren’t good at that time haha. What I love the most about music is that I can say what ever I want. So instead of turning to social media to say the things I’m thinking, I can just put it in a song,” commented the artist who explained to me how he got his start in music. His influencers include a very eclectic bunch spanning various occupations outside of music too, such as Tim Burton, Steve Jobs, Quentin Tarantino, Pharrell, Michael Jackson, Zaha Hadid, Kanye West, and Goku & Vegeta.

As a man who goes very deep into the meanings and stories of his music, I wondered what the creative process behind this upcoming album was like. He elaborated: “Every time I start an album it’s mostly because I’m watching some movie and I’m thinking of creating the theme music for that movie. Then I start with writing the songs; The lyrics and melody. Then I sit with producers who I feel are inspiring me at the moment to create the sounds that go with those lyrics and melodies. We build everything from scratch and create this sonic sandwich that I hope goes down smoothly.” He continues on about the project: “Flawd is exactly what the title is. It’s me revealing and accepting the flaws of myself and other people. We often get in the way of our own happiness by our fantasy of what a relationship should be, and that could be friendships/ family, lover; Any relationship. Flawd is realizing we have wounds that we carry around with us that we don’t embrace and work on which leads to our own undoing in relationships.”

Adrian Daniel - Keaton Matusich5.JPG

A connoisseur of the tormented and loving,  you can hear the actual pain in his silky moans and the crying electric guitar chords integrated subtly within the compositions. His voice is so perfect to blend with other vocals as well! He mentions how if he could collaborate with anyone currently it would be Stevie Wonder, Childish Gambino, Tame Impala, and Jai Paul.

Currently, Daniel is trying to expand his horizons, and is learning photography and interior design. I then had to ask my favorite question: If you could soundtrack your life to an album, which album would it be?

Daniel responded with, “This is an amazing question and it would be between My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy ( Kanye ) and Random Access Memories ( Daft Punk ).”

The sonic narrator then answered my other favorite question: if you had to choose a symbol, emoji, image etc. to describe yourself, what would that be?

“😑 & ⚡️”

Daniel’s thoughts on the music landscape of Brooklyn is extremely interesting, and one I think not many were aware of. “The music scene in Brooklyn is really tight and a lot of artist from here inspire me, but because of ego a lot of the time artist are afraid to say that they are inspired by and are fans of their peers. I don’t care about all that, if I’m fan you gonna know I’m a fan. I’m a fan that makes music at the end of the day. The band “Phony ppl” are actually the guys that inspired me to create my first project on my own. Watching them work on their music together and not relying on no huge writer and producer to make amazing music was incredible to see.” He humbly notes the people that give him that extra push, which shows that true character of the man behind the music.  His vibe is real too. It’s dark, creepy, and trippy– it’s got that beauty in ugliness sound.

Adrian-Daniel-press-photo-2016-billboard-1548-a.jpg

As recognized by VIBE magazine, “Brooklyn-bred singer [has] a trippy sound trip reminiscent of Frank Ocean meets The Weeknd meets Childish Gambino”. It’s true! He incorporates the falsettos, the slow-sexy tempo, the monologues, the voice recordings, and the warped voices that add a cinematic experience to his music. This perfectly brings us to the question of how the artist and his interests in anime and Marvel are incorporated in his life, sense of style, and artistic direction.

“They play a huge part. All the colors and aesthetic choices I end up using can be traced back to some anime or comic book character or show. I actually created a comic book character to go along with this album. If you go to my instagram and scroll down you can see him”. The artist fills us in on a little exciting animated adventure that we will be seeing then for the new production to come!

I then asked Daniel what is next for him? What does he want to do next?  He answered enthusiastically, “I really can’t wait to tour this music and perform it for people. It’s gonna be really fun. I’m always trying to better myself, so I make it my business to learn something new every year. I want to be the best version of myself, in every aspect.”

Artist Spotlight: April + Vista Magically Open for GoldLink

A magical duo you don’t want to miss out on.

I had the chance to cover the Goldlink show in Boston, at the Paradise Rock Club, two weeks ago. Let me tell you, it was a wonderful experience! I had arrived at the venue by 6:30, thirty minutes before the doors opened, and already, there was a line out the door and down the sidewalk. The kids were all chatting as everyone had arrived to the show in crews or as couples to the event.

Now, the crowd was already excited for the headliner who started as nothing but an underground rapper, but who is now known as the ring master to his artistry and devoted fans. With the energy filling the space, the first openers were to take the stage, and wow, did they own it. Enter April + Vista, an indie-R&B, neo-soul duo that emulated the vitality and power of The Fugees and the vibes of  NAO, Anderson .Paak, and Frank Ocean combined. Their music is practicality “genre-less” as they bend the status quo and concoct their own cocktail of music.

4534532.jpg

Made up of April George and Matthew Thompson, these two, hailing from the DMV, released their debut EP Note To Self back in July of 2016. Their single “Beasts” reached about 53 K streams alone on Spotify. Now, of course, they have given themselves a huge opportunity by opening for both Masego and GoldLink.

Known as the “Stresswave pioneers”, April + Vista’s eclectic sound is truly what separates them from other artists. Honestly, everyone in the crowd was so extremely happy. It was just sheer love for the music, and it felt as though everyone in that room was truly a person who appreciated the noise produced rather than just the person that is the artist. From start to finish, April + Vista mesmerized us. They enchanted and captivated us and used this beautiful aura of melodies and vocals and instrumentals to lift us into an unearthly dimension. The audience was supportive, cheering at the top of their lungs and getting into it. No one minded if you bumped into them or if you decided to dance with them. People were not afraid to dance stupidly and sing at the top of their lungs. They echoed and called in unison, being cooperative to the duo. I had never seen anything like it before, and in the the darkness of the worn venue that is Paradise Rock Club, the intensity of the provocative and innovative pair stole our hearts.

April surprised us all when she suddenly pulled out her valiant steed, the violin and began to stroke it in this array of beautiful whines! People didn’t know how to react except scream in excitement.

If you have not hear them yet, then you must now! Listen above to be completely engulfed by the magic of these two’s creations.

Courtnie is Back with the Release of Her Glittering EP ‘I Feel Like Color’

Re-colored

She’s back, and back with a full project of alternative energy which she titles I Feel Like Color. Courtnie now drops the EP that she had been working on for quite some time.

The EP consists of the alt-R&B track we featured before “Take a Dip”, “Slipping”, which is a winding, crooning melody, “Mesmerized”,  a dark tune with that atmospheric touch of Björk, “Never Be” a bellowing harmony, with the layers of her voice sounding like a ghostly lullaby, “U Don’t Have to Call”, which is a more 80’s soprano track with neon emotions and metallic falsettos about being self-assertive and self-dependent, and “LTMF” here we are offered a more funk-centric track that has the sounds of psychedelic guitar plucks and keyboard riffs along with rich lyrics and vocal tunes.

I feel like color!

A post shared by courtnie (@kingcourtnie) on

You can see the range of Courtnie’s artistry which spans various genres across the board from just this project, but also from her past work. Each song fits within the EP as if it’s meant to be there and as this self-defining compilation slowly unravels before your eyes, you hear the transformations her voice travels through to embody each sound. She still has work to do to create a solid production, but she is a majority of the way there, with an undeniable talent that has to be heard and needs to be recognized.

Her music can lull you to sleep, but it could also arouse you, and getting blood and emotions flowing, and have the soul want to sing along to the cries she makes in her tracks. With love wrapped around the notes and lines that she confesses to us, we find a place for her music in our hearts and in our playlists.

Courtnie Releases New Single “Dip” Produced By Brandon Combs

Take a dip in the reverbs.

Courtnie is an intriguing character with a fresh take on the stylings of R&B. She has accumulated support from publications such as  Saint Heron, Pigeons and Planes, The Fader, NPR and Billboard, and she continues to build a buzz as she constructs her artistry. In this new single “Dip”, she demonstrates the old school nature that she is well-aware of, taking it back to the roots of the genre. However, in the same way, she possesses a cutting-edge composition that makes the track her own, and releases the boldness that makes Courtnie her own in the lane.

With a fire and seduction like that of SZA and the forceful croons of Ella Mai, this chick makes the cut of a passionate R&B songstress in today’s music scene.  An aspect to notice, is how divergent Courtnie’s voice is in comparison to a lot of the artists today, and she is making sure that remains the case throughout her career.

This new track will appear off upcoming EP I Feel Like Color, that is set to release September 29th. The 6-track project will be a compilation of various records she has been working on in the past, and will re-emphasize the strength in her vocals.

Courtnie

The percussion in the track resurrects an erotic feeling that is both anthemic and mellowing. The tempo change is a fierce move, that I am in love with, and adds another element of animation the already reeling track. Her voice waves in and out and up and down the steady beat painting the image of riffs taking dips into the stereos in the studio and absorbing the sound.

Courtnie is a dynamic like her music. Living in Chicago, St. Louis, Los Angeles, and currently: Brooklyn, New York, the girl has traveled to various parts and has picked up multiple perspectives of music. She’s also a writer, which helps develop the lyricist within as she prepares herself for a new project!

While you wait for her EP to arrive, follow and listen to her on SoundCloud, Instagram, Tidal, Apple Music and Spotify!

Amy Cohen R&B/Pop-Soul Artist Debuts Seductive & Enchanting Single “Playing Games”

Playing silly little games

R&B is getting a fresh face to the scene. Singer/Songwriter Amy Cohen has released her hot rhythmic single “Playing Games” today, and it’s going to be a track all soul-pop fans are going to adore.

Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, Cohen takes a step into the wonderland of the music industry with a track that truly proves she’s a worthy contestant. Utilizing music as her outlet to self-expression and discovery, she took to the keys for sanctuary and found her real voice in the sounds she fabricated on her own. With a contemporary twist on the raw, authentic side of R&B, she pulls the emotions out of the listener. In this empowering song, both musically and symbolically, she speaks on behalf of women who have a lot to say, and can’t bring themselves to voice their troubles.

“Baby, you should put your pride aside for me, and I should put my pride aside for you” croons the soulful siren.

The angelic and endearing sounds of the composition and the velvety voices overlaid is reminiscent of Kehlani because of how they both use intonations of melancholy sung within an optimistic tune. It’s all an enchanting experience of love and realization and seductive.

Amy Cohen 2

“I draw from personal experiences when I write, starting with honest lyrics and slightly broadening the story to universally resonate with listeners”, Cohen delineates as she discusses her relatable musical process.

Cohen explains that the song, “Playing Games”, “touches on the push/pull power dynamic we see so often in today’s relationships, emphasizing how simple it all could be if we just swallowed our pride and gave into what we want.”

Playing Games Cover.jpg

Cohen continues to grow as an emerging musician, and she shows the zeal and devotion to her artistry just from her tracks alone. Her vulnerable and confident tonal contradiction in each song she produces creates a very real feeling in her music, that comes from a humble, understanding place. In the past, Cohen has experimented with a collection of remixes and covers on Facebook, SoundCloud, and YouTube, but she’s pioneering her place in this music world now, and in doing so, is sharing her music with us all to enjoy and vibe to.
